Welcome to Gurudongmar Lake

Gurudongmar Lake, also known as Gurudogmar Lake, the top 15 highest lakes in the world and is the second highest lake in Sikkim, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft (5,430 m) in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is a lake which is considered sacred by both Buddhists and Sikhs. The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, founder of Tibetan Buddhism who visited the lake in the 8th century. The panoramic and scenic beauty of the place is a sight to behold.

Tour Description

Day1 : Gangtok - Lachung (Approx - 124 kms 6 hrs)

After breakfast around 8-10.00 a.m. we start from gangtok to Lachung (8610 ft) via Chungthang. Lunch at Mangan nearly 3 hours of drive from Gangtok. On the way enjoy a few wonderful locations like Tashi View point, Kabi Lungstok, Naga Waterfalls, Twin Waterfalls, Bhim Nala Waterfalls and the confluence of Lachen chu and Lachung Chu at Chungthang. The road leads through Rhododendron plants of the Singha Forest Reserve extended up to the Tibetan Plateau - Picturesque landscape, snow peaked mountains, flowing rivers blooming rhododendrons - During April / May / June one can find the riot of colours as Rhododendrons, Primulae and many other Alpine Flowers are in full bloom – Guest are expected to reach Lachung at late afternoon or early evening. Check into hotel – Evening free to stroll up to Lachung valley & teesta river – Night halt at Lachung.

Day2 : Lachung - Yumthang - Lachung - Gangtok

Morning breakfast - After breakfast leave for Yumthang nearly 26 kilometers and is 1.5 hours drive - Yumthang valley is situated at an altitude of nearly 11800 feet with the river Lachung Chu flowing through the valley - Yumthang valley, hot spring, Lachung is most sought after by tourist and the valley is either snow covered or the blooming Rhododendron always enhance the beauty of the place - On the way from Yumthang one may visit the famous hot spring known for its curative properties - Yumthang is a large valley surrounded by mountains where the tree line ends and the cold desert starts – In the winter months there is snow all around and the snow clad mountains adds to the beauty. After lunch leave for Gangtok . Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Thangu valley occupies a very broad valley at the junction of the Thangu Chu, Chopta chu & Lassur Chu. It is situated at an altitude of 14000ft. Both the valley erupts riots of colours in the month of June & July. In the month of Dec/Jan you can play in the snow or even walk.
